McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – It’s a disappointing beginning to KCAC play for the Bulldogs as they fell to the Southwestern College Moundbuilders in the conference play opener on Saturday (Nov. 16), 65-58, and fall to 0-6 on the year.

Offense was hard to come by in the first half as both teams shot under 30% from the field with Southwestern shooting at a 28% clip with the Bulldogs hitting at just 27% as both teams turned the ball over 10 times. Where the Moundbuilders were able to generate separation was on the offensive glass as they pulled down five offensive rebounds to score five second chance points. This helped Southwestern take a 26-21 lead into the halftime break.

McPherson came out of the locker room in the second half ready to play as they locked down the Moundbuilder offense, allowing a 16% field goal percentage to cut the lead down to a single point heading into the fourth quarter. Southwestern came back alive in the final quarter, hitting 43% of their shots to secure a 65-38 win.

Kennedy Smith had a strong showing, recording her second double double of the year with 12 points and 19 rebounds. Nikola Boris put in her best scoring day as a Bulldogs, recording eight points along with four rebounds.

The Bulldogs will make a 30 minute trip down the road for their next matchup against Kansas Wesleyan. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
