McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — The McPherson College Bulldogs fell to the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes 59-47 Wednesday evening (Nov. 29) inside the Sport Center.
The Bulldogs finished with a season-high 28 turnovers, leading to 37 Coyote points. Kansas Wesleyan turned the ball over 23 times.
MC shot 29.8 percent (17-for-57) from the field, and were just 1-for-5 from beyond the arc compared to 9-for-24 from distance for Kansas Wesleyan. The Bulldogs shot 12 more free throws than Kansas Wesleyan, connecting on 12 of their 19 attempts.
The Coyotes got off to a hot start, scoring 12 of the first 14 points of the game before leading 17-7 after the first quarter.
MC fought back to open the second quarter thanks to back-to-back layups by Chloe Clevenger, using a 7-0 run to pull them within 17-14. However the Coyotes answered with a 7-0 burst of their own to push the lead back to eight.
The Bulldogs clawed back once again late in the second quarter after a layup by Mikaela Boyd made it a 28-24 Coyote lead, but a three by Jill Stephens as time expired gave Kansas Wesleyan a 31-24 lead at the break.
From there, the Coyotes pushed their lead to 13 early in the third quarter before mounting a 19 point lead with 3:26 left in the game.
Clevenger led the Bulldogs (4-4, 0-3 KCAC) in the scoring column with 12 points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds to notch her first career double-double. Clevenger also led the team with four steals. Madelyn Hankins added nine points, while Gillian Rodgers scored eight points and had a pair of blocks.
Stephens paced the Coyotes (4-5, 2-1 KCAC) with 12 points, all coming from beyond the arc. LaMyah Ricks scored 10 points and had four steals.
The Bulldogs hit the road Saturday (Dec. 2) to take on KCAC newcomer Evangel University in Springfield, Mo. Tipoff is scheduled for Noon.
