Buhler Sports Roundup: Tennis Finishes 1st at Home Quad, Swimming Advances to 2-0

While the weather is warming up, so is the spring sports season for the Buhler Crusaders. On April 8, the Crusaders placed first as a team during the Varsity Quad at Buhler High School.

Singles individuals Davian Spies and Tucker Schlatter went 3-0 on the day. Spies and Schlatter both placed first.

On the doubles side, Von Woleslagel and Reuben Harder went 3-0 on the day along with placing first. Titus Bortzfield and Jaxton Gillette wrapped the team up with another first-place also going 3-0 during the Quad.

The Crusaders’ next meet is Friday, April 11 at the Maize South Invitational.

Swimming & Diving

The Crusaders continued their strong start to the season at 2-0 on April 8, when they won the Great Bend Invite. Buhler placed first with 391 points, Great Bend placed second with 385 points, and Hutchinson placed third with 364 points. Buhler placed a significant amount of people in all races.

Competing in the 200-meter freestyle, Hannah Swain placed second and Cathlyna Theriot placed eighth. Grace Schmidt took seventh place in the 200-meter individual medley. During the 50-meter freestyle, Aivlynn Ehmke placed sixth. Three Crusaders competed and placed in the 100-meter butterfly including Aivlynn Ehmke placing third, Avery Schrader placing fourth, and Ellie Goering in sixth place. In the 100-meter freestyle, Grace Schmidt placed fourth with Addy Tech right behind her in fifth place and Ragen Walle placing seventh. Hannah Swain took first place during the 500-meter Freestyle with two more Crusaders not far behind. Reyne Kaufman placed fourth and Cathlyna Theriot placed sixth. During the 100-meter backstroke, Brayla Johnson found her way to seventh place, and Ragen Walle placed ninth. Going back to back with each other, Evey Brooks and Addy Tech placed fifth and sixth in the 100-meter breaststroke.

Buhler also competed in three medley relays. As a team the Crusaders placed second in the 200-meter medley relay, fourth in the 200-meter free relay, and fifth in the 400-meter free relay.

Head coach Shane DeWeese was pleased with the Crusaders’ performance. “It was a solid victory for the team,” DeWeese said.
