Buhler Sports Roundup: Swimmers Grab First at Hutch Invite, 3 Wrestlers Currently State Ranked

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Already four meets into the season, it has been a busy start for Buhler boys swimming. The Crusaders earned their first team win on Tuesday at the Hutchinson Invitational, besting eight other teams with a collective score of 369.5. Garden City was second and Hutchinson third.

Individually, Buhler finished first in 7 of 11 events. “These guys were on fire and the points were flying,” said Head Coach Shane DeWeese.

Hudson DeWeese placed first in the 500 freestyle, swimming a state qualifying time of 5:25.84. DeWeese also earned top honors in the 200 IM. Jonah Gardener scored first-place finishes in both the 100 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke, and Logan Garner swam the top time in the 100 backstroke.

So far this season, Buhler has collected top-25 statewide times in 7 events. Following Christmas break, the Crusaders will return to the pool on January 3rd at Newton.

Wrestling

Buhler’s Kimberlyn Crabbs has had an impressive start to her sophomore season, collecting three first-place finishes through three tournaments. Crabbs is currently the top-ranked girls wrestler in the 105-weight class for all high schools in Kansas.

Sammy Hershberger and Cruz Hershberger both find themselves in the latest Class 4A rankings for the Buhler boys. Sammy is ranked second at 120 and Cruz fifth at 144.

The Buhler girls and boys will compete Thursday night in dual action at Augusta.
