Buhler Sports Roundup: Soccer 3-0 Last Week

Soccer – The Buhler boys’ soccer team competed well last week, going 3-0. On Tuesday they played against Mulvane at home, beating the Wildcats 2-1.

Goals from Reuben Harder, Nathan Wells, and Jayden Adcock led the Crusaders to a win at Salina Central 3-2 on Thursday. Buhler defeated Winfield 2-0 to earn their second victory of the week at home.

The team will be on the road again on Tuesday in McPherson and Thursday in Valley Center.

 

Golf:

The Buhler golf team traveled to Wellington and McPherson. At the Wellington Invitational last Tuesday they placed 2nd with a score of 374. The Crusaders were just under Wellington who placed first, scoring a 348. Freshman Anika Paulsrud placed second with a round score of 77. Also placing with her teammate was sophomore Macy Miller who placed eighth and shot a 92.

The Crusaders ended the week strong during the McPherson Invitational on Thursday. They competed against 13 other teams, placing fifth shooting a 347. Anika Paulsrud came in fourth with a score of 72.

“I was proud of how we played and the team scores we posted,” Buhler coach Brennan Torgerson said.

It’s a busy upcoming week with tournaments scheduled for every day but Wednesday.

 

Tennis – Hosting their home Invitational, Buhler had individual placings in addition to finishing third as a team. In singles, Sophia Spies placed first along with Ashlyn Coker who placed eighth out of 14 players. Spies is now 18-2 overall, winning four of her six tournaments this season and placing second in the other two. Coker lost a great match in a tiebreak to McPherson’s No.1 player who was top 10 at state last year.

The Crusaders also competed well in doubles. Competing in their first tournament, Addie Caywood and Emily Allen played well going 3-1 and placing fifth. Also playing together for the first time, Katelyn Harding and Kylee Bradshaw went 2-2 on the day placing 11th.

“The conditions were really tough, and I thought they did a good job of battling,” Buhler coach Matt Babcock said.

Varsity will play this week at Salina South on Thursday and at Wichita Collegiate on Saturday.

 

Volleyball – Buhler volleyball was on the road last week to the Wellington Triangular with Clearwater and Wellington, going 1-1 on the evening. The Crusaders lost against Clearwater in two sets 25-10 and 25-20. Coming back for a win, Buhler beat Wellington 25-20 and 25-23. Winning five of the last six matches, the Crusaders are ranked No.1 by Central Kansas Sports in AVCTL III Power Rankings.

This week the team will compete against Augusta and Andale in the Augusta Triangular on Thursday.

 

Cross Country – The Crusaders hosted their home Invitational last Thursday. The varsity girls placed 4th along with varsity boys finishing 2nd. Three individual runners for the girls finished in the top 25. This included Corbin Starkweather placing 2nd with a time of 20:38.4, Ava Koster (24th) running 23:09.4, and Isabella Friesen (25th) receiving a time of 23:18.6. The girls weren’t the only ones to place well. Three individual runners on the boys’ side finished in the top 16. Gavin Lindahl placed 2nd running a time of 17:28.9, Kai Mendenhall (12th) having a time of 18:22.8, and Ryan Cherry (16th) with a time of 18:36.4.

“We are pleased with the efforts from everyone running in some hot conditions,” Head Coach Curtis Morgan said.

The team’s upcoming meets will be on Tuesday at Southeast of Saline and Saturday at Rim Rock.
