Golf
Starting the week well, the Crusaders finished second at the AVCTL Division III. Wellington won the tournament with a score of 338, while Buhler came in second, carding a 343, which is the lowest score this season. McPherson, who carded a 349, took third place.
Making some history for the Crusaders was Anika Paulsrud, who took first carding a 75. She is the first individual champion for Buhler since Taryn Togerson who won the tournament all four years of high school. Many of Paulsrud’s teammates competed well and improved. Macy Miller placed fourth with a score of 87 on the day along with Paityn Weber carding 90 and placing tenth. Individuals Juliette Shank and Harlie Terrel both got a new personal record of 91, taking 11th and 12th places. Also making it in the top 15 was Addison Specht who scored a 93 taking 13th. Buhler will travel to McPherson for Regionals on Monday, Oct. 14.
Tennis
Competing at the AVCTL Division III, the Crusaders placed third. Sofia Spies was named League Champion in No. 1 singles and made Buhler history. Spies is 25-3 on the year and the first League Champion since Shayla Roath in 2011. During the title match, Spies defeated Amelia Blackman of Collegiate 6-2 and 6-3. In No. 2 singles for the Crusaders is Ashlyn Coker, who placed as well, taking fourth. The first team for doubles for Buhler is made up of Addie Caywood and Emily Allen who placed fifth together. Also doubles partners, Katelyn Harding and Kylee Bradshaw were right behind placing 6th. The team will travel to Winfield for Regionals on Friday, Oct. 11th
Cross Country
The Crusaders competed at the KC Classic on Oct. 5, finishing in the middle of the group. The girls team placed 10th out of 26 teams. Having many other competitors, Corbin Starkweather placed 30th running a time of 20:01.70. During the girls’ race, 214 individual athletes were competing. On the boys side, the team placed 13th out of 30 teams. Individual Gavin Lindahl ran a 16:45.70 placing him 32nd out of 238 other boys competing. The Crusaders will travel to the Sterling Invitational on Thursday, Oct. 10.
Volleyball
Buhler was on the road to Collegiate to play in a triangular on Oct. 8. The Crusaders split the matches going 1-1 on the night. Losing the first game to Collegiate, they lost in two sets 25-23 and 25-22. Bouncing back from the loss, the Crusaders won against Winfield in three sets 25-23, 25-27, 25-9. The team is now 11-12 on the season and remains number one in the AVCTL III Power Rankings. Traveling to El Dorado on Oct. 12, Buhler will compete in an eight-team tournament. The Crusaders will play a triangular matchup versus Circle and Rose Hill on Thursday, October 17, which will also be Senior Night.
Soccer
The Crusaders hosted against Wichita Classical which ended in a 0-0 draw on Oct. 9. The team is now 4-6-1 on the season. The final two home games will be against Circle on Thursday, Oct. 10, and El Dorado on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
