BUHLER, Kan. – In Buhler’s first meeting with McPherson in December, the girls snapped a road losing streak that stretched back nearly four decades. Their 55-44 win was the first in the Roundhouse since 1987.
The Crusaders secured the win at the free throw line, outscoring McPherson 18-8. They also took advantage of 24 Bullpup turnovers.
Friday, Buhler will have the opportunity to break another long streak. The girls have not won back-to-back games against McPherson since 1987-88.
Since that December meeting, Buhler has won 10 of 12 and remains unbeaten in AVCTL III play. McPherson is 5-5 over the same stretch, including a loss at Augusta on Monday.
“Every single team, every night, you gotta show up.” Head Coach John Darrow said. “That’s the great thing about our league.”
Friday is also the Annual Pink Night at Jim Baker Fieldhouse with money raised to benefit the Carla Goertzen Foundation.
“I love being able to do that,” Darrow said.” That is my favorite night of the season.”
BOYS
The Buhler boys are finishing up a stretch of facing four ranked teams in their last five games. Friday’s opponent, McPherson, is ranked second in Class 4A and holds a seven-game win streak in the series.
McPherson won at the Roundhouse in December, 70-30, shooting 52% from the field to Buhler’s 16%.
“What a great opportunity at our place on Friday,” Head Coach Eric Tate said. “Just to see how much we’ve improved.”
Forward Jacob Miller was not on the floor for the Crusaders in that December meeting. Since returning from a collarbone injury, he’s averaging 9.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
“If you remember back to that Mac game, we left a lot of layups short,” Tate said. Excited to se them at our place.”
