Blake Bradford’s ninth-inning double scored Jarrett Flaggert, and the Hutchinson Monarchs knocked off the Derby Twins 3-2 on Tuesday at Hobart-Detter Field.

The Monarchs improved to 4-1 in the second-half standings in the Jayhawk Collegiate League. Overall, the Monarchs are  15-6.

Ian Regel pitched seven shutout innings for the Monarchs. He allowed two hits and struck out four.

The Monarchs started brightly, as Cooper Wesslund’s RBI single scored Camden Johnson in the first inning, giving the Monarchs a 1-0 lead.

The lead doubled in the third inning, as Johnson singled, stole second, stole third, and scored on Wesslund’s squeeze bunt.

The lead lasted into the eighth inning when Derby tied it up with a pair of runs.

However, the 2-2 tie didn’t last long.

Reed Scott earned the win on the mound for the Monarchs, as he threw one shutout inning in relief.

The Monarchs are slated to play at Derby again today, the start of a two-game road trip. They’ll return home at 7 p.m. Saturday to take on the Great Bend Bat Cats.
