HUTCHINSON, Kan. – After a second-straight decisive road victory over a nationally ranked team, the Hutchinson Community College football team strengthened its hold on the No. 1 spot in the latest NJCAA Division I Football Rankings, which were released on Monday.
Hutchinson defeated No. 5 Iowa Central 27-2 on Saturday to improve to 3-0. The Blue Dragons also 42-6 road win over then No. 11 Navarro on August 26.
The Blue Dragons had nine of the 10 first-place votes, one more than last week, holding a 149-141 lead over No. 2 Iowa Western. Kilgore, Jones and Trinity Valley are the Nos., 3 through 5 teams.
Iowa Central dipped to No. 6 after the loss to Hutchinson. Butler is No. 12 and Garden City is No. 14. Dodge City is receiving votes for the second-straight week.
The Blue Dragons have the first of two bye weeks this week and finally open Jayhawk Conference play on September 23 against Coffeyville at Gowans Stadium.
The Blue Dragons have been ranked in 21 consecutive rankings periods.
