HUTCHINSON, Kan. (bluedragonsports.com) — The Hutchinson Community College football team remained atop of the NJCAA Division I Football Rankings for the third-straight week on Monday.
Hutchinson (3-0) had its first bye week last weekend and will be the last Jayhawk Conference team to open league play as the Blue Dragons play host to Coffeyville at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Gowans Stadium for Youth Football Night with the Blue Dragons.
The Blue Dragons have now been ranked in 22 consecutive ranking periods.
Through its first three games of 2023, the Blue Dragons are 2-0 against ranked opponents, winning at then-No. 11 Navarro 42-6 on August 26 and 27-2 at then-No. 5 Iowa Central two weeks ago in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
For the second-straight week, the Blue Dragons received 9 of 10 first-place votes. No. 2 Iowa Western received the other first-place vote.
Kilgore retained the No. 3 spot, but with then-No. 4 Jones and No. 5 Trinity Valley both getting beat last week, Iowa Central moves into the No. 4 spot and Mississippi Gulf Coach is No. 5.
Three Jayhawk Conference teams are in the rankings this season. Butler moved up one spot to No. 11 after a win over Independence last week. Garden City is remains No. 14. Dodge City remains in the receiving votes list.
The Blue Dragons’ next three games will be Coffeyville on Saturday, at Butler on September 30 and Dodge City on October 7.
