PITTSBURG, Kan. – Freshman Gracie Lambert finished off a strong regional championship with a runner-up in the 800 meters and helping the 4×400-meter relay place in leading the Hutchinson Community College women’s track and field team on Sunday at the Plaster Center in Pittsburg.
Lambert scored 15 points to lead the Blue Dragon women to a sixth-place finish at the 2023 Region VI Indoor Championships. Barton won he women’s team title with 162 points. Cloud County was second with 153 points and Fort Scott was third with 111 points.
Now the Blue Dragons take eight qualifiers into the NJCAA Indoor National Championships on March 4-5 at Washburn University in Topeka.
Lambert, on Sunday placed in two individual events and on a relay to add to her Saturday performance where she helped the Hutchinson Distance Medley Relay to a regional runner-up finish.
Lambert placed second the 800 meters on Sunday with a time of 2:24.53. She placed fifth in the 600 meters with a time of 1:40.99. That time was the third-best Blue Dragon time in the event in program history.
Lambert then ran the anchor leg with a fifth-place finish in the 4×400 relay. The relay team of Kaylee James, Ellie VanZelfden, Keneah Romney and Lambert ran a time of 4:05.92, third best in Blue Dragon indoor history.
Freshman Serenity Larson finished a 14-point meet with a third-place finish in the 3,000 meters. Larson ran a PR of 10:49.60, the third-fastest time in Blue Dragon indoor history.
Freshman Taylor Hoskinson placed fourth in the 1,000 meters, posing a time of 3:11.60. Hoskinson ran the third-fastest time in Blue Dragon indoor history.
VanZelfden, Sydney Grauer, Lauren Aden and Daizy Orozco placed third with a time of 10:27.64.
VanZelfden placed eighth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:29.76.
James placed seventh in the 60-meter hurdle finals with a time of 9.30 seconds.
