CANYON, Tex. (BlueDragonSports.com) – Hutchinson Community College sophomore running back Waymond Jordan Jr. earned his second significant postseason award Tuesday night at the NJCAA Football Championship banquet.
Jordan was the winner of the “Juco Weekly” Trophy, which is awarded to the best player in NJCAA Football.
NJCAA President Dr. Christopher Parker made the announcement and Jordan was presented the trophy by Juco Weekly founder Mike Frazer.
Jordan, the nation’s leader in rushing and rushing touchdowns, adds this award to his growing list of accomplishments this season. Jordan was also named the KJCCC Offensive Player of the Year in November.
The sophomore from Pensacola, Florida, became the 20th Blue Dragon running back to rush for 1,000 yards in a season. Jordan leads the nation in rushing this season with 1,532 yards and has a nation-leading 20 rushing touchdowns. Jordan averages 7.9 yards per carry this season.
He has nine games of 100 or more rushing yards. His season high was 213 yards on 24 carries and three touchdowns in a 44-0 victory over Highland on November 9. He added 201 yards and two touchdowns in the national semifinals against Georgia Military on December 8.
Jordan is currently seventh on the Blue Dragon single-season rushing list. His 20 rushing touchdowns are second on that single-season list. His 7.9 yards per carry ranks first in team single-season history.
Jordan was a five-time KJCCC Player of the Week and he was an NJCAA National Player of the Week once in 2024.
Jordan was the second Blue Dragon to be a finalist for the Juco Weekly Trophy. Quarterback Dylan Laible was a finalist in 2022.
Jordan and the No. 3 Blue Dragons will play No. 1 Iowa Western in the NJCAA Division I Championship game at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at West Texas A&M’s Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium in Canyon.
