Blanchat Scores 30 Again; Olson Leads Viking Boys to Win

LINDSBORG, Kan. – The Smoky Valley Vikings picked up their first Central Kansas League wins on Friday night as Kat Blanchat tied her career high with 30 points in a 17-point win over Nickerson and Braylon Olson dropped a career high 20 as the Viking boys beat the Panthers.

Girls-Smoky Valley 46, Nickerson 29 – Nickerson got off to one of their best starts of the season as the Vikings could not pull away in the first half.  Kat Blanchat scored 12 points in the first quarter to lead Smoky Valley to a 16-9 lead after one quarter.  Each team scored seven points in the second as Smoky Valley took a seven-point lead into the locker room.  The Vikings made their move in the third quarter as Blanchat added 11 more points and Smoky Valley outscored Nickerson 18-2.  Blanchat had 29 after three quarters and added a free throw in the fourth to get to her career high of 30 points for the second straight game.  She was the only player in double figures for Smoky Valley.  The Vikings are now 2-6 and 1-3 in the CKL.  Nickerson was led by Jayli Groth who hit two three-pointers in the first quarter and finished with 10 points.  The Panthers dropped to 1-7 and 0-3 in the CKL.

Boys-Smoky Valley 58, Nickerson 51 – In a back and forth game, Nickerson held a one-point lead after the first quarter, but Ty Heitschmidt made a half-court buzzer beater to send Smoky Valley into halftime with a 26-22 lead.  The Panthers bounced back with a 15-9 third quarter to lead 37-35, but the Vikings offense, led by Braylon Olson, erupted for a 23-14 advantage in the final quarter on the way to the eight point win.  Olson scored 11 of the 23 fourth quarter points and finished with a game and career high 20.  Three players scored in double figures as Heitschmidt had 13 and Atticus Pavlovich scored a career high 11.  The Vikings are 2-6 and 1-3 in the CKL.  Nickerson is now 1-7 and 0-3 in the league.  Riley Brawner scored 13 to lead the Panthers and Garrett Crossman added 12.
