— BETHANY COLLEGE ATHLETICS RELEASE —
Rincon, Puerto Rico (BethanySwedes.com) – Head Swedes Baseball Coach Olan Ortiz returned to Puerto Rico to help operate the Puerto Rico Collegiate Summer Baseball League (PRCSBL) in which he has been doing so for the past 8 years.
Dean of Athletics, Laura Moreno on Coach Ortiz’s opportunity with the PRCSBL: “We are thrilled for Coach Ortiz to continue his work as the Director of Player Development in the Puerto Rico Instructional Baseball League during the summer. This is always a fantastic opportunity for him to expand his growth as a coach, mentor, and leader. It is also an excellent opportunity for so many of our Swedes student-athletes to play in this developmental summer league. We look forward to seeing the impact this has on Swedes student-athletes, Coach Ortiz, and the baseball program as a whole.”
Coach Ortiz’s role in the PRCSBL is Director of Player Development and Coaching/Scouting. Olan has been joined by 12 of his players from Bethany College who are all playing and gearing up for next season.
Bethany Head Coach Olan Ortiz: “I am very grateful for this opportunity, to manage this program and to work around former’s professional coaches & players. Also, to help these players from around the US and Puerto Rico to develop/reach their dreams. This opportunity will help to become a better coach and apply all the stuff I have learned to our baseball program.”
The PRCSBL is a summer league that runs from June until July and allows baseball players to participate in a highly motivated, competitive, and well-organized league. After the college season has ended, the student-athletes get to continue gaining playing experience.
The PRCSBL is a “wood bat” league meaning no more of that sweet sound you get when a metal bat makes contact. Wooden bats are used to help players gain knowledge and experience in playing the game to professional scouting standards.
The season consists of 4 teams that play 15 games each in the regular season followed by an All-Star Game and Post-Season League Championship Tournament which is a 1-game win-or-go-home situation.
