LINDSBORG, Kan. (BethanySwedes.com) – Bethany College hosted the Ottawa University Braves in their Homecoming Weekend matchup, where the Swedes fell 0-3, Saturday, October 5th.
Set 1: The Swedes came out swinging in the first set leading by two until the pivotal 12-12 mark. From there Bethany and Ottawa went point for point until the Braves went on a run and the Swedes found themselves down by 3, at 18-21. The Swedes rallied and the momentum shifted in Bethany’s favor, allowing them to tie up the set at 22-22. After two kills back-to-back by Autry Satica, the Swedes were ahead and set-point within reach. The Braves managed to earn two kills to tie up the set at 24-24. Win by two, Ottawa aced the Swedes back-to-back to take the set at 26-24.
Set 2: After the heart-breaking end to the first set, the Swedes were determined to bounce back and take Set 2. The start of the set was similar to Set 1, with both teams quickly siding out, and not allowing runs to take place. The set was tied at 11-11, where the Braves took control and were ahead by 3 at 15-12. The Swedes began to chip away at the lead but Ottawa would maintain the advantage and take Set 2, 25-18.
Set 3: Final set of the night, Bethany worked to keep the Braves out of system and the set would be tied at 8-8 before Ottawa broke out and went on a run. Down by 3 at, 10-13, the Swedes called a timeout to regain composure but the Braves attacked the mismatches and extended their lead to 6, 12-18. Bethany would try and bounce back but unfortunately the Swedes were too late, the Braves took set 3, 25-16.
Notable stats from this game include 10 kills by Ashlynn Gehring, 3 blocks by Autry Satica, 21 digs by Michelle Acevedo Ortiz, and 17 assists along with 1 service ace by Katie Voss.
