Baseball Bulldogs Drop Three to Kansas Wesleyan

SALINA, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — The McPherson College Bulldogs fell in three games this weekend to the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes in Salina Kan.

 

GAME ONE – KWU14, MC 2

BOX SCORE

After three scoreless innings, the Bulldogs broke through for a pair of runs in the top of the fourth thanks to an RBI single by Dylan Hampton then a sacrifice fly by Kainoa Torres.

But from there it was all Coyotes, scoring 14 unanswered runs, including five in the bottom half of the fourth inning. The Coyotes kept that momentum going with one in the sixth, three in the seventh, and five in the eighth.

The Bulldogs had an opportunity for runs final two innings, loading the bases with two outs in the seventh and again with one out in the eighth, but were unable to bring them home.

Errors plagued the Bulldogs, as three of the Coyotes runs were unearned. MC finished game one with four errors.

Hampton finished 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Dawson Walters and Hayden Foster each had one hit.

Jamison Caro threw 6.2 innings with four strikeouts, but allowed seven earned runs and walked nine batters.

 

GAME TWO – KWU 6, MC 3

The nightcap was similar to game one, as the Bulldogs grabbed an early 2-0 lead. Luke Nordean reached on an error by the right fielder with the bases loaded, which allowed Colin Evers and Andres Artola to score.

MC pushed its lead to 3-0 with a solo blast by Peyton Starr to lead of the third inning, but that would be all the scoring for the Bulldogs.

Again, the Coyotes offense went to work late, scoring six unanswered runs to grab the win.

Kevinn Castillo went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, while Starr and Evers each had one hits.

Noah Thomas got the call on the mound in game two, throwing 3.1 innings with six strikeouts.

 

GAME THREE – KWU 13, MC 3

BOX SCORE

In the series finale, once again the Bulldogs lead first thanks to another solo shot by Starr. MC again push its lead to 3-0, benefitting from another error to score Artola in the fourth. An RBI single by Hayden Foster in the fourth rounded out scoring for the Bulldogs.

Again, the Coyotes scored 13 straight, including five in the sixth and six in the eighth to complete the sweep.

Foster finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Evers, Starr, and Artola each had one hit.

Hayden Casey struck out nine batters in 5.2 innings of work, but allowed six earned runs on seven hits, including three home runs.

The Bulldogs are back in action Tuesday (Mar. 12) as they host Ottawa University. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
