Barton’s Moss and Kindell Earn Men’s Basketball Program’s 19th NJCAA All-America Award

GREAT BEND, Kan. (BartonSports.com) – Brent Moss and Keandre Kindell have been named to the Division I All-America selection teams released today by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

The announcement marks the second consecutive year the Cougars have been selected for the national distinction, Moss landing on the 2nd team following Lajae Jones’ same honor last year while Kindell earns the Honorable Mention nod of the 50-man award list.

The duo become the 15th and 16th Cougar to garner All-America status in earning the program’s 19th overall honor.

Helping the program capture its first ever National Championship during their freshman campaign, the duo led Barton back to the national tournament in consecutive seasons for the first time in history with the season coming to an end in the second round completing the year at 29-9.

Moss was named to the 12-man National All-Tournament team, averaging 11.0 rebounds and 21.0 points on 57.6% shooting, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc in the Cougars’ pair of big stage contests.

Each additionally garnering first team All-KJCCC/Region 6 honors after being named honorable mention last season, this season they helped Barton to a third place conference standing at 18-7 followed by its third straight appearance in the Region 6/Plains District title game.

Kindell, along with Fontaine Williams, were named to the Region 6/Plains District All-Tournament team after averaging 19.7 points, 6.0 assists, and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 43.5% from the field and a near perfect 15-of-16 from the charity stripe in the three contests.

BRENT MOSS – 2nd Team
One of thirteen Division I players to average a double-double, the 6’6″ native of Freeport, Bahamas, scored 17.2 points per game on 51.4% shooting while ranking 9th nationally in rebounding at 10.2 per game including 15th in defensive boards (6.6) and 21st on the offensive glass (3.6).

One of the top five performers in the region, Moss was also the lone player in the region to average a double-double, leading the league at 10.7 rebounds per contest on a 4th best scoring average of 18.3 points coming on a 9th best 52.9 shooting percentage.

Posting 18 double-doubles including a 28-point, 12-rebound performance in his final game as a Cougar, Moss posted thirteen of his double-doubles against conference opponents with his last two coming at the national tournament.

A three-time KJCCC Player of the Week, Moss added the NJCAA’s week nine National Player of the Week honor following a monster 40-point, 20-rebound effort against Independence with an ensuing 17-point outing helping Barton to a double-digit victory over then-12th ranked Coffeyville.

Moss also led Barton’s scoring in fourteen of the thirty-three games and twenty-two times in rebounds.

KEANDRE KINDELL – Honorable Mention
Kindell was also among the nation’s best as the 6’0″ guard dished out a nation’s 29th most and region leading 5.1 assists per game while defensively ranking 32nd with a region leading 2.2 steals per game.

Arguably one of the region’s hardest guards to contain, the Cincinnati, Ohio, native averaged a region 11th best 15.8 points per outing on 41.9% shooting and a nation’s 5th best 88.6% free throw shooting of those attempting over 100 total charity tosses during the season.

A two-time Player of the Week recipient, the first came in week 11 posting back-to-back career high performances beginning with a 26-point outing leading a road upset at then No. 23 Hutchinson then three days later posting a 31-point performance on 67% shooting versus Garden City.

Five weeks later, Kindell grabbed his second weekly honor averaging 22 points on 55.6% shooting with 6.5 assist and 2.0 steals in victories over Colby and Independence.

If it wasn’t Moss leading the Cougars on any given night it was Kindell, putting up game highs in twelve of the games while leading the squad’s distribution in twenty-five of the thirty-three games including the last fourteen outings of the season, while defensively leading twelve times in steals.

Kindell also posted a pair of double-doubles, each coming in post-season play, the first coming in first round playoff action versus Cloud County with a 23-point and 10-assist night before dishing out a career high 12 assists with 18 points in the opening round of the national tournament over Brunswick.

Saddled with foul problems in the Cougars’ second round national stage loss to Daytona State, Kindell again led the court with 8 assists in closing out his final season with 180 dimes.
