COLBY, Kan. (KJCCC.org) – A trio of fresh faces highlight this week’s Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 1 Volleyball Player of the Week Awards with Cloud County’s Bradie Medina (offensive), Maria Lopes Miranda (setter) and Barton’s Naya Danenberg (defensive) earning week five honors for the 2024 season.
Offensive Player of the Week (Bradie Medina – Cloud County) – Medina started all ten sets for Cloud County last week, guiding the team to a pair of home sweeps over Otero College and Southeast Community College. Medina had two double doubles in the team’s two wins, tallying 5.33 kills per set and 5.0 digs per set against Otero, and totaling 3.67 kills per set and 4.0 digs per set against Southeast. Accounting for 36 kills and 41 points scored last week, Medina currently ranks in the top six in the conference in kills per set (3.14), digs (248) and digs per set (4.35).
Setter of the Week (Maria Lopes Miranda – Cloud County) – Lopes Miranda started all six sets in Cloud County’s home sweeps of Otero College and Southeast Community College on Friday, September 20. She tallied over 30 assists in each match, including a season-high 32 assists against Otero College. She averaged over 9.6 assists per set in three matches last week, with the T-Birds winning seven of the eight sets that she played in.
Defensive Player of the Week (Naya Danenberg – Barton) – Danenberg had a strong defensive effort this week helping fifth ranked Barton remain unbeaten in KJCCC play. The sophomore reached double digit digs in both matches this week averaging 4.33 digs per set. Danenberg opened the week patrolling the back line with 12 digs and teaming up for a pair of assisted blocks in a three-set win at Seward County before capping the week off with a perfect service receive effort in 24 chances with 14 digs, averaging 4.67 digs per set in 3-0 home sweep over Dodge City.
