COLBY, Kan. (BartonSports.com) – The 17th ranked Barton Community College men’s basketball team turned a mere one-point lead with six minutes left into a fifteen point advantage in the ensuing five minutes for an 84-73 victory Saturday at Colby Community College.
The Cougars took over the lead for good with a 13-0 first half run but had their twelve-point second half lead shrink to just one with 6:09 to play.
Turning up the defense resulting in forced and unforced turnovers, the Cougars tacked on another 12-0 run over four minutes within a 15-1 stretch to notch its 9th straight win of the series and 5th straight in Colby.
Barton improves to 7-3 in KJCCC play and 13-3 overall while Colby falls to 5-6 in league and 10-7 on the season.
Next up is a two-game homestand beginning on Wednesday hosting Independence Community College followed by Saturday’s contest against Coffeyville Community College. Game time slated for 7:30 p.m. or twenty minutes following the earlier conclusion of the women’s contest.
All five Barton starters reached double digit scoring being led by Brent Moss‘ 19 points and 8 rebounds followed by Aris Rodriguez‘ 17 points with twelve of those coming in first half action helping the Cougars to a seven-point halftime advantage.
Kindell, along with Moss, accounted for Barton’s last fifteen points of the afternoon, scoring all but two of his 14 points in the second half while adding unofficially 8 assists, 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
Reigning KJCC Player of the Week James Parlow, Jr. contributed 12 points with Sebastian Muchitsch knocking down a career best trio of three-pointers towards his 11-point outing.
Off the bench, Lyna Brooks, Jr. put 9 points on the scoreboard as Fontaine Williams‘ lone points came in transition during the Cougars’ 10-0 early second half run for its then largest lead of eleven points.
