Barton Bowling Opens Tournament Season with Strong Results at SWIBC I and SWIBC II; Peterson Leads Individually with Third Place Finish

FORT WORTH, Tex. (BartonSports.com) – Competing in their first weekend tournament of the season, the Barton Community College bowling programs returned home with four top-10 performances over the pair of teir-2 tournaments held at the City View Lanes in Fort Worth, Tex.

Opening the weekend Saturday in the SWIBC I, the Cougar men led the way with a fourth place finish while the Lady Cougars mended a fifth place outing as the teams battled over four individual games and 10 baker rounds. Returning hours later for six individual games, the Barton women led the charge in Sunday’s SWIBC II fashioning a fourth-placing while their counterparts dropped two spots back in sixth.

Barton will remain in state for their next two tournaments with the first coming Tuesday at Ottawa University before heading to Wichita for their lone tier I tournament on the schedule at the Mid-States Championships held Saturday and Sunday.

Men’s Recap
In Saturday’s SWIBC I, the Cougars destroyed the fourth most total pin count 5203 while placing six individuals inside the top-35.

Individually Brayden Bastin paced Barton’s lineup finishing just inside the top-15 with a 14th highest pin total. The freshman knocked down 759 pins with a second game high 208 over his four rolled games.

A trio of Cougars stayed steady with Torrey Lindsay‘s 25th highest score 706 leading three straight Barton entries followed by Cole Brown‘s 26th 703 and Carter Lambeth‘s 699 score for 27th.

Finishing the top-35 placings was Campbell Peterson‘s 34th 661 mark and Logan Lindsley‘s 659 pin count for 35th.

Capturing the team crown was Newman University amassing 5742 pins edging out Southern Nazarene University’s runner-up 5596 pin total with the University of Texas San Antonio settling in third at 5507.

On Sunday, the Barton men fabricated the sixth highest pin fall 5731 over six individual games with a trio of Cougars placing inside the top-40 of the 113 participant field.

Peterson had the biggest jump in Barton’s lineup leaping 31 spots for a third-place all-tournament selection blasting 1374 pins for a 10-frame average 229 highlighted behind his second game best 279.

Finishing fourth best on the squad in Saturday’s action, Brown assembled the team’s second-best 1152 for 33rd place while Lindsley capped the squads third highest finish 1125 for 40th place.

Outlasting the 12-team field was Newman University with 6683 pins with the University of San Antonio earning runner-up honors tipping 6389 pins and Southern Nazarene University in third place with 6187 over the six individual games.

Women’s Recap
Chailyn Scott and JaeLinn Thetford piloted the Cougar lineup in Saturday’s SWIBC I as the duo amassed an identical 639 pin destruction over four tossed games for seventh and eighth respectfully to lead a trio inside the top-10.

Freshman McKenzie Craig capped Barton’s top-10 placings with the 10th most pin fall 630 in the 51 participant field.

Besting the eight team field was Louisiana Tech University rolling a top tournament score 5455 while Stephen F. Austin State University settled for second with 5346 and Texas A&M University following in third at 4671 pins.

In Sunday’s action of the SWIBC II, Barton leaped a spot higher tipping 5091 pins over the six individual games.

Hope Resendiz mended the biggest climb in the Cougar lineup as the freshman improved 21 spots accumulating a six game 1052 for 12th while teammates McKenzie Craig and Scott fell in line with scores of 1040 and 1039 respectfully.

Maintaining consistency throughout the weekend, Ellie Weeks slid a spot back from Saturday’s 34th finish tallying 696 over four tossed games for 35th place rounding out the top-35 finishers for Barton.

Louisiana Tech University capped the weekend sweep on the team side with a tournament best 6683 with Stephen F. Austin State University falling in the runner-up spot with 5832 pins and Texas A&M University in third 183 over the Cougars.
