STERLING, Kan. — Each week, Ad Astra Radio recognizes different athlete’s outstanding achievements. Congratulations to the Athlete of the Week for the week of 10/20-10/26, Sterling High School junior Chelsie Brown.
The week: Brown won the Class 3-2-1 singles state championship at Riverside Tennis Complex in Wichita. The overall No. 1 seed at the state tournament, Brown received a first-round bye before winning all four matches in straight sets. In those four victories, Brown won 48 games to her opponents’ 16. She won the state championship match 6-4, 6-0 against Lauren Seitz of Kansas City Christian.
The season: Brown, a junior, went undefeated this season, compiling a perfect 36-0 record. She was also dominant in the Ashland regional, winning four matches in straight sets and winning 48 games to her opponents’ four.
