McPHERSON, Kan. — Congratulations to this week’s athlete of the week, Ciara Rawson, senior on the McPherson High School wrestling team! The Athlete of the Week is presented by Hutchinson Community College.
The week – Rawson continued her strong season by winning the Class 4A regional championship in McPherson. Rawson swept through the 235-pound division, winning three matches, including two by fall. She eked out a hard-fought 5-3 semifinal win over Holcomb’s Abigail Redden, and then Rawson pinned Wellington’s Natalie Burnett in 41 seconds in the regional championship match.
The season – Rawson, a senior, has won tournaments this season at Burlington, Circle and the regional at McPherson. She enters the 4A state tournament on Feb. 28-March 1 in Salina as one of the favorites to win the state championship, as Rawson sports a 16-1 record.
