HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Each week, Ad Astra Radio recognizes different athlete’s outstanding achievements. Congratulations to the Athlete of the Week for the week of 10/27-11/2 Hutchinson High School senior Ava Burlie.
The week: Burlie was part of the Hutchinson team that qualified for the Class 5A state tournament at Salina Municipal Golf Course. Burlie made the final-day cut and finished in a tie for 26th place, with a two-round score of 179. Burlie shot a first-round 87, and then had a 92.She missed out on a medal by five strokes.
The season: Burlie, a senior, led a short-handed Salthawks team that often had just the minimum number of players, four, needed for a team score. Burlie finished sixth at the regional at Carey Park Golf Course, which helped lead Hutchinson to a regional runner-up finish.
