STERLING, Kan. — Ad Astra Radio is proud to announce this week’s Athlete of the Week, Boston Ekart, Sterling High School junior. Ad Astra Radio’s Athlete of the Week is presented by Hutchinson Community College.
The week – Ekart was instrumental in leading the Black Bears to the Class 2A state championship. In three games, Ekart scored 53 points on 19 of 40 shooting. He had 22 points and sank 4 of 5 from 3-point range in a first-round 97-48 win over Chase County, added 16 points and five rebounds in a 76-59 semifinal win over Ell-Saline, and then scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the championship game, a 56-42 win over Moundridge.
The season – Ekart set the school’s single-season scoring mark with 516 points, averaging 19.6 points a game. He also averaged 7.6 rebounds a game, and added 40 steals, 30 blocks and 19 assists, helping Sterling win its second state championship.
