Area Results from KSHSAA Wrestling Championship Saturday

Three Reno County wrestlers came up one match short in their bid for state titles at the KSHSAA Wrestling Championships Saturday.

Hutchinson’s Cade Smith lost an 8-0 major decision to Bradley Trimmell of Andover at 157 pounds in 5A at Hartman Arena in Park City. The Salthawks had two other wrestlers medal Saturday, Cruz Cannon taking 3rd at 106 pounds by sudden victory over Brock Slimmer of Spring Hill, and Camden Jensen took 5th at 285 pounds on a tiebreaker over Josiah Bradley of Emporia.

Buhler’s Cruz Hershberger lost a 9-7 decision to Tonganoxie’s Braeden Moore at 144 pounds in the 4A tournament at Tony’s Pizza Event Center in Salina.

In 3-2-1A Haven’s Justin Loughrie fell in the 144-pound title match on a 3-1 decision to Mason Younger of Ellis, while Jacob Moore too 5th at 128 pounds with a 7-3 decision over Chase Meyer of Hoxie

Andale’s Owen Eck brought home a gold medal for the Indians as he took a 16-4 major decision over Tucker Cell of Abilene in the 4A 157-pound final. Ethan Eck took 5th at 150 pounds, with Ian Aouad 3rd at 175 and Isiah Wilson 3rd at 190.

Garden Plain’s Gage Lee took home the 3-2-1A boys Silver medal at 175 pounds after losing a 6-3 decision to Aiden Amrein of Hill City.

McPherson’s Ciera Rawson lost in the 4-1A girls 235-pound title match on an 8-1 decision to Kena Leonard of Paola.

Halstead’s Callin Divine lost 7-2 to Amanda Jaeger of Colby in the 4-1A girls 130-pound championship match, Kaylyn Davis of Halstead took 5th at 125 pounds.

Larned’s Luke Fischer capped an undefeated senior season as he won the 3-21A 215 title, getting a technical fall over Barret Lietz of Rossville in a match halted early in the 3rd period with Fischer up 15-0.

Other state champions from the area included:

Josiah Bell of Hoisington at 138 pounds in 3-2-1A boys and Daizey Gomes of Great Bend at 130 pounds in 6-5A girls.

Other medal day action in 4A boys included:

Clayton Considine of Halstead placed 5th at 126 pounds with an 8-4 win over Keith Sanders of Rose Hill, with Connor Herman bringing home a 5th place medal with a 2-0 decision over Jacob Hanaback of Abilene.

Hayden Farley of McPherson placed 3rd at 157 pounds with a first period fall over Masten Wright from Anderson County, while Jace Fitzmorris placed 6th at 175 pounds, falling 10-4 to Cade Small of Chanute.

3-2-1A results from around the area:

AJ Alamanza placed 6th at 113 pounds with a 11-0 major decision loss to Alexander Hamel of Hill City, with Nate Dold placing 5th after an 8-4 decision over Cole Hinton from Sabetha.

Will Donley of Ellsworth placed 4th at 132 pound after a second period fall to Logan Courtois of Burlingame.

Marion’s Brian Nguyen placed 6th at 215 pounds after a 2nd period fall to Brodie Bourdreaux of Beloit.

Brody Chamber of Southeast of Saline placed 6th at 285 pounds, losing in a second period fall to Mason Hogan of Plainville.

Other area girls 4-1A results:

Macey Parks of Buhler placed 4th at 145, losing her final match to Madelyn Garcia of Columbus

Trista Rogers of Haven placed 3rd at 155 pounds with a 2nd period fall over Shawna Case from Prairie View.

Kierra Mullen of Smoky Valley placed 3rd at 135 pounds after a second period fall over Mogan Hills of Colby.
