KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Pittsburg State University sophomore guard Max Alexander was selected as the MIAA Player of the Week for men’s basketball Monday (Dec. 11).
Alexander averaged 26.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game while leading Pitt State to a pair of home wins over Newman and previously unbeaten Central Oklahoma last week.
The Buhler, Kan., native scored 24 points, dished out five assists and played all 40 minutes in the Gorillas 75-66 upset over the No. 3 ranked Bronchos Saturday (Dec. 9). He added 29 points, eight rebounds and three steals in Pitt State’s 82-66 victory over the Jets on Dec. 7.
Alexander leads the MIAA in scoring to date, averaging 22.1 points per game.
Pittsburg State University junior guard Grace Pyle was named the MIAA Player of the Week for women’s basketball Monday (Dec. 11).
Pyle averaged 29.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 made 3-pointers and 2.5 assists per game in leading Pitt State to a pair of home wins over Newman and Central Oklahoma.
The McPherson, Kan., native poured in a school record 41 points – on 16-for-23 shooting and 8-for-13 from 3-point range – in the Gorillas 75-66 win vs. UCO Saturday (Dec. 9). Her scoring outburst lands her in a tie for 10th place on the MIAA’s single game scoring chart and her eight triples rank in a tie for the fourth-best single game total in program history. Pyle also logged her fourth career double-double against Newman on Dec. 7, posting 17 points and 11 rebounds in Pitt State’s lopsided 92-43 win.
For the week, Pyle shot 61.1 percent from the field, 47.4 percent from 3-point range and 7.1 percent at the foul line.
