Akpan’s Monster Double-Double Fuels Swedes Past Bluejays

LINDSBORG, Kan. (BethanySwedes.com) – The Bethany College Swedes Men’s Basketball team opened the new year a little later than expected with a matchup against the Tabor College Bluejays. Tabor has already played a game this year – a loss to Kansas Wesleyan University. The Swedes would start off sluggish, but would turn it on in the second half scoring 51 points in the period to seal the victory 89-78.

Emmanuel Akpan racked up a monster double-double with 29 points, 17 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. Maurice Cudjo II would score 15 points in the victory. Devin Spencer would tally seven assists and four steals. DeYon Bell would protect the paint with three blocks on the evening.

As a team, Bethany would shoot just south of 50% (49.2%) from the floor good for their fourth best shooting percentage in a game this season. On defense, the Swedes would tie their season-high in team steals with 14; the fourth time they have hit this mark.

The Swedes will take the journey to Springfield, Mo. to take on the 6-9 (3-6) Evangel University Valor on Saturday, January 11. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 PM in AGFinancial Arena.
