LINDSBORG, Kan. (bethanyswedes.com) – The Bethany College Department of Athletics and Dean of Athletics Laura Moreno has announced that Head Coach Zach Able has been officially named Head Coach for Men’s & Women’s Golf effective May 11, 2023.

“We are excited for Coach Able to continue to lead Swedes men’s and women’s golf,” said Dean of Athletics Laura Moreno. “His development both professionally and personally over the past 9 months has proven his ability to build and strengthen relationships, prioritize the student experience as a whole, and prepare student-athletes to be successful in the classroom, in the community, on the golf course, and in life beyond Bethany. Coach Able’s experience as both a student and coach at Bethany, as well as his familiarity with Lindsborg and Kansas as a Lindsborg native, are incredibly valuable, and will continue to help Bethany golf make its mark as one of the most well-known and respected NAIA golf programs in the state, region, and nationally. Rockar Stockar! Go Swedes!”

With Coach Able in the driver’s seat, both Swedes golf teams continued to succeed. Men’s Golf finished second as a team in the 2023 KCAC Golf Spring Championships with two All-KCAC award recipients.

As for the Women’s side, the Swedes won the Spring Championships as a team and Ida Lihufvudh won her second individual championship in a row. Lihufvudh also won KCAC Golfer of the Year while Brooke Norman and Elin Kennborn both received All-KCAC Honors.

Able also won the KCAC Women’s Golf Coach of the Year award in his first season at the helm.

Head Coach Zach Able had this to say: “I feel extremely honored to be the full time Head Golf Coach here at Bethany College. I want to thank Laura Moreno and the rest of the Bethany Faculty and Staff for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I have no doubt we can build off this successful year and continue the great tradition of Swedes Golf!”

Before being named interim head coach, Able was the assistant golf coach for a year while also being an assistant coach for a successful Bethany College Women’s Basketball program for three years.

Zach is a 2021 graduate of Bethany College with Bachelor’s Degrees in Business Management and Sports Management with a minor in Coaching.
