GREAT BEND, Kan. (BartonSports.com) – The 8th ranked Barton Community College women’s soccer team led for nearly 60-minutes over 14th ranked Cowley College on Saturday but it wasn’t enough as an equalizing goal with 27:27 remaining furnished a 1-1 draw at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
The result leaves the Cougars 3-1-2 overall on the season and in league play while the Tigers move to 4-0-2 overall and in conference action.
Barton will return to the pitch Wednesday night with a road trip to Garden City Community College for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff at Broncbuster Stadium.
It took just 3:19 before the Cougars netted the game’s opening marker with Beatriz Baldi delivering her first collegiate goal coming on a near post-strike knocking home Nina Norshie‘s setup cross sent into the box.
The lead held until just under 28-minutes remaining as quick passing between Sara Esinosa and Laura Pouedras found an unmarked Nella Nevalinen shaping up a perfectly placed top-shelf, 30-yard strike just over the Cougars’ keeper Mio Tanaka‘s outstretched hands.
Barton created multiple chances for the go-ahead score behind its 15-5 shot advantage, but the Tigers’ netminder Kanon Dehama denied four of the five shots faced on frame.
The draw moves Tanka’s record in net to 3-1-2 on the season after making one save.
