3-2-1A Girls State Wrestling: Martinez & Holinde Claim Titles; 17 Total Medalists from Ad Astra Areas

HAYS, Kan. – A large contingent of wrestlers from the central, east and west portions of the Ad Astra Radio areas competed in the KSHSAA 3-2-1A State Wrestling Championships at Gross Memorial Coliseum this weekend.  Two wrestlers brought home state titles and a total of 17 athletes made the medal stand.

Remington senior Camila Martinez brought home the state title at 110#.  She opened the tournament with a win by fall in just 52 seconds over Jayda Bailey of Hoisington and followed that with a win by fall in 3:18 over Luna Vazquez of Lakin.  In the semis, Martinez picked up a win when Oakley Cadence Koch had to retire due to injury.  Martinez took the momentum to Saturday’s championship match, winning by fall in 48 seconds over Ebony Hughes of Central Heights, finishing her final season at 36-4.

Also taking home a state title was Hoisington senior Haylee Holinde at the 235# weight class.  She opened with a win by fall in 57 seconds over McKenzie Rohr of Solomon and then won by fall in 4:57 over Rivver Long of Stockton in the quarters.  In the semis, Holinde won a 5-0 decision over Braylie Knisley of Douglass.  She then took the championship match over Emmarsyn Fordham of Onaga by a 9-1 decision to finish her season at 22-3.

Hoisington sophomore Nevaeh Graves also made the championship match at 170#.  She won her first three matches by fall over Lola O’Neil of Sabetha, Sophia Kane of Norton and Brenah Cannon of Council Grove.  In the championship, Graves lost by fall to Oakley’s Atavia Cain in 4:19, finishing 30-4 on the season.

In other placings, Uniontown senior Madison Shepard (100#), Lyons junior Kennedy Grizzle (110#), Hoisington senior Lillian Gradig (135#), Haven senior Trista Rogers (155#) and Ellinwood senior Emma Hahn (235#) all finished in third place.  Fourth place finishes went to Sterling freshman Jacynn Boeken (105#), Jayhawk-Linn freshman Alayna McCarty (120#), Remington junior Sheyenne Pinkston (125#) and Humboldt junior Taevyn Baylor (155#).  Lyons freshman Taylor Baxter (100#), Ellinwood freshman Kaylynn Crawford (135#) and Hoisington freshman Ayla Brown (155#) all finished in 5th place, while Ellsworth sophomore Sophie Homolka (145#) and Stafford junior Trynity Pope (170#) both brought home sixth place medals.  Full results for the 3-2-1A Girls State Championships are at the link below.
