Golf
The Crusaders traveled to Hesston for the 4A State Tournament on Oct. 21-22. After day one, the team found their way to sixth place, shooting a 380. On day two they shot a 364 and finished fifth in the final standings. Taking the state title was Topeka Hayden with a total score of 698. Coming in second and third was Wellington scoring a 713 and McPherson carding a 727.
“I’m very proud of the progress and accomplishments this team achieved this year,” coach Brennan Torgerson.
Volleyball
The Crusaders concluded their regular season as tournament champions at the Abilene Tournament on Oct. 19. The team went 4-1 on the day, defeating Augusta and Ellsworth in two straight sets. Abilene and Salina Central put up a fight, going into three sets but both fell short. Emerson Waldren broke the school record for kills in a season. The last record was set in 1998 with 360 kills.
Buhler is now 20-16 on the season and drew No. 8 in the 4A West for Sub-State. The Crusaders will face No. 9 Mulvane in their first match at Clay Center on Oct. 26. Buhler is 2-0 against the Wildcats this season.
Tennis
During the 4A State Tennis Meet held Oct. 18-19, Buhler placed sixth. Freshman Sofia Spies earned a first-round bye and then won three matches in all straight sets to earn a spot in the signals finals. Spies finished second after falling 6-0, 6-0 against senior Ainzley Zulueta from Topeka Hayden. Spies ended her season with a 32-4 record.
“They represented our school and program incredibly well,” coach Matt Babcock.
Cross Country
Buhler will host Regionals at Prairie Ridge Cross Country Park on Oct. 26. Andale, Clearwater, Concordia, Hugoton, McPherson, Pratt, Ulysses, and Wellington will also compete. Girls will run at 10 a.m. followed by boys at 10:35 a.m. The three top-finished teams and the top 15 individuals in each race will qualify for 4A State at Wamego Country Club on Nov. 2.
Soccer
The Crusaders fell short 4-0 at Berean Academy to finish out the regular season on Oct. 22. Buhler is 6-8-2 on the season and will be No. 10 in the 4-1A West. Regional brackets will be set on Oct. 26.
