The US National Weather Service Wichita Kansas has extended the winter storm watch issued this morning further south, to now include all central Kansas counties along and north of US 56 including McPherson, Rice, and Marion counties along with Barton, Ellsworth and Saline counties and points north and west. It will also now be in effect from 6 AM Monday until noon Tuesday. Current forecasts project the potential for heavy snow accompanied with winds gusting to 50 miles an hour which could create near-whiteout conditions.
There is still some uncertainty as to the exact storm track which will determine how much snow will fall, but the winds will cause blowing and drifting of any snow that does fall.
