McPHERSON, Kan. — At the McPherson USD 418 Board of Education meeting on Monday night, the Board agreed to submit to voters in November another bond issue proposal, of the same amount as the proposal rejected in May, but with some changes.
The most notable of the changes is to get rid of the previously proposed turf soccer and football practice field, and reduce the budget for amenities for the new athletic field already built on the north side of McPherson High School from seven to three million dollars.
Also deleted from the project is finishing two unused classrooms at Eisenhower Elementary School which they decided there is not a current need for. The cuts will offset increases in cost for other components of the project.
During an over hour-long study session, Board member Jeff Johnson said he would only back a November vote if renewal of a sales tax supporting the three McPherson County hospitals is not information-related to the board. Johnson indicated the hospitals were not going to pursue their proposal in November if the USD 418 bond was on that ballot. Final action to submit the proposal to voters will come at their next meeting on August 14th.
