Hutchinson, Kan. — United Way of Reno County is excited to announce that Board Member, David Sotelo has been chosen to attend the 2023 One Young World Summit representing United Ways in Northern Ireland.
United Way Worldwide has a commitment to develop the next generation of globally minded young leaders who are passionate about advancing the common good, they are partnering with One Young World, an organization focused on empowering young people to build a fair, sustainable future for all. As part of this collaboration, United Way is excited to participate in the 2023 One Young World Summit to be held this October in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
The summit provides a unique opportunity for 2,000 exceptional young leaders from around the world to gather together and address some of our world’s most consequential challenges. Delegates will engage in five plenary challenges related to peace and reconciliation, the food crisis, education, the climate, and mental health.
After soliciting nominations from across the global Network, United Way Worldwide has selected five outstanding United Way leaders to represent our organization. They demonstrate the breadth of leadership strength within this global Network, especially among young leaders. Each delegate is making unique and noteworthy contributions to their communities and their United Ways.

- David Sotelo, United Way of Reno County Board Member and Human Relations Officer for the City of Hutchinson in Kansas.
Sotelo is a United Way of Reno County Board Member and the Human Relations Officer for the City of Hutchinson, Kansas. Forced to leave his home country of Mexico at age 13, he resettled in the United States and now leads equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts for his city and advises community organizations on equity strategies.
When asked about this, David says “I am so grateful for this opportunity to represent Hutchinson and the United Way of Reno County. I’m excited to share the great work we’re doing in Hutchinson to encourage a culture where everyone leads. I hope to gain new perspectives and tools to help make our community better through this experience.” David was named Kansas Minority Business Advocate of the Year, recognized in Kansas NextGen Under 30, and awarded a National Hispanic Executive Leadership Fellowship and Kansas Future Fellowship.
