United Way of Reno County Announces Grant Funding for Local Food and Shelter Programs

RENO COUNTY, Kan. — The Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program has chosen to award Reno County non-profits $16,494 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the area.

Under the terms of the grants, local governmental or private voluntary organizations chosen to receive funds must be:

  1. Non-profit organization
  2. Have an accounting system and conduct an annual audit
  3. Practice nondiscrimination
  4. Have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs
  5. If they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board.

Program funds can be used to provide support for the following initiatives:

  1. Food, in the form of served meals or groceries.
  2. Lodging in mass shelter or hotel/motel.
  3. Rent or mortgage payments, up to 90 days.
  4. Utility bill(s), up to 90 days.
  5. Equipment necessary to feed or shelter people, up to $300 limit per item.

Qualifying organizations and programs are urged to apply. Applications must be submitted to the United Way of Reno County office by June 28, 2024, at noon.
