McPHERSON, Kan. — McPherson, Kansas, long recognized as a “Tree City USA” for effective urban forest management, will soon benefit from the addition of 15 Sugar Maple trees in the city’s Lakeside Park. The donation from Kansas Gas Service, in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation Energy-Saving Trees program, is part of the company’s broader awareness campaign to promote safe digging practices.
Wayne Burns, Director of McPherson Public Lands & Facilities, expressed his gratitude for the trees, which will be planted when the weather is cooler. “We appreciate this type of investment in the community—it’s what helps our urban forestry to continue to grow.”
Kansas Gas Service encourages everyone to call 811 or submit an online request at kansas811.com at least two full working days before starting any digging project, regardless of its size. Contacting 811 alerts owners of underground utilities to mark their facilities so you can dig safely around
them. It’s a free service that can help prevent injuries and unnecessary service outages in your neighborhood.
“When digging in Kansas, whether for planting a tree or large construction, there’s a high probability of underground facilities below the site,” said Sean Postlethwait, vice president of Operations at Kansas Gas Service. “Through this tree donation, we’re pleased to contribute to an
area that families can enjoy for many years while emphasizing a message to help keep the community safe.”
