RICE COUNTY, Kan. — A traffic stop near Claflin Thursday led to two arrests, one involving an escape warrant from Rice County.
According to Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellindir, deputies stopped a car on K-156 belonging to Nathan Manley of Holyrood, who had multiple warrants from various jurisdictions. The driver of the car, Dennis Streiner, 47, of Great Bend, had been contacted earlier in the day about the whereabouts of Manley, who was found in the back seat.
Both men were arrested and after further investigation at the scene, methamphetamine was also found in the vehicle.
Manley was taken into custody on a Rice County warrant alleging aggravated escape from custody having a $10,000 bond, and a no bond warrant from Barton County for failure to appear. He was also booked on requested additional charges of possession of methamphetamine.
According to court records, Manley had been granted a furlough on which he was supposed to return to the Rice County Jail by 5 p.m. Nov. 19, one day after community corrections was revoked and sentence ordered executed in a Barton County drug and felony DUI case where corrections was terminated unsuccessfully in a second drug case.
