HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The USD 308 Board of Education held their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, November 27th, 2023 at 6:00 p.m.
There was one Board Action Item titled: KASB Policy Update. Three Board policies were recommended to be revised to bring them in-line with state statute. This included: AG Closing of School Buildings (revised), JK Student Activities (revised), KK Disposal of District Property (revised) (new title). This item was approved unanimously.
During the Superintendent’s remarks, Dr. Johnson stated that the January 8th 2024 meeting will bring two new board members, Tad Dower and Gleysha Mendez-Rosario. At the same meeting, two board members will end their tenure; Valarie Gibson-Smith and Ron Fisher. Johnson also reminded the Board they were welcome to join District Administration and guests at upcoming events including the Boys & Girls Club of Hutchinson Youth of the Year Banquet on December 7th. This event will feature three Hutchinson High School students as they compete to advance to the state competition. Read more here.
During Superintendent Consent the Treasurer’s report, KASB Lead Negotiator fees, ESSDACK Interlocal Agreement, and gifts to schools were approved. The Board accepted two gifts to schools including gifts to be used for students needing assistance with lunch money, and a general gift for teacher needs.
The board went into Executive Session to discuss the matter of Real Property Acquisition. No action was taken on Real Property Acquisition. The personnel report was approved.

The next regularly scheduled meeting is December 11th at 6:00pm at the USD 308 Administration Center, 1520 N. Plum, Hutchinson, KS 67501. Prior to that meeting, at 5:45pm at the same location, the Board will hold a hearing regarding enrollment of nonresident students’ policy.
