Helping to Provide Christmas Gifts to Kids in Need Throughout Reno and McPherson Counties

By Brenna Eller

The Clayworks at Disability Supports is once again partnering with the Reno County Sheriff’s Office for Shop with a Sheriff. For the first time, the McPherson County Sheriff’s Office is participating in the initiative.

Shop with a Sheriff is a fundraiser intended to provide Christmas gifts for children in need.

Both Sheriff’s departments have already started raising funds according to Jenna Parli, Retail Manager at The Clayworks in Hutchinson.

In partnership with the initiative, The Clayworks is selling original ornaments by donation. All proceeds from the sales will go towards the Shop with a Sheriff funds. The minimum donation for Reno County’s fund is $20, and for McPherson County it is $10. You can increase your donation as you see fit.

“It’s approximately $110 to sponsor one kid and there are many kids in need in both McPherson County and Reno County,” Parli said.

Reno County has held the fundraiser for over a decade and since they were able to increase their spending limit, they hope to exceed last year’s sponsorship goal of 70 kids.

“Christmas is such a wonderful magical season, especially for children,” Parli said. “We proudly support Reno County Sheriff’s Department and McPherson County Sheriff’s Department in helping make some much deserving children’s Christmas wishes come true.”

McPherson County has set a goal to gift 20 kids since this is their first year doing the event.

“Having Sheriff’s officers giving gifts to the kids in need not only provides a joyful Christmas for the kids, but also gives them positive interaction with local law enforcement,” Parli said. “The Clayworks at Disability Supports is honored to help foster the connection between the protectors of our community and some of our most vulnerable youth population.”

Gifts will be given to children in Reno County on Dec. 7, and to McPherson County children Dec. 14.

The Clayworks and Peoples Bank and Trust will continue selling ornaments throughout the Christmas season in hopes to raise money for next year as well.
