By the Hutchinson Fire Department

MEDORA, Kan. — At 0440 hrs, The Hutchinson Fire Department was alerted of a structure fire in the town of Medora. First arriving crews found a fully involved structure with multiple outside storage units involved. Excessive storage conditions inside the home and outside the home limited extinguishment efforts. Rural water operations were used due to the closest water hydrant being 5 miles away from the incident. Crews attempted to complete a “Vent Enter Search” (VES) of the only survivable space at the time, without success. It is unknown if the home was occupied. Fire Operations continued with a defensive attack for multiple hours.

At the time of this release, crews are still actively fighting the fire and investigation into the cause has not started. Multiple Reno County Fie Districts continue assisting with water tender operations. Medora township provided a loader and backhoe to assist in removing the debris and excessive storage around the home.

HFD would like to thank the following crews for their assistance. Reno County Emergency Communications, Reno County Emergency Management, Fire District 3, Fire District 8 Buhler Fire Department, Reno County EMS, Reno County Sheriff Department, Medora Township, Kansas Gas, and Evergy.
