HUMBOLDT, Kan. (Oct. 1, 2024) — Social work student Ally Turner is committed to helping the animals in her community. This commitment comes from Turner’s experience volunteering at Animal Pounds and seeing the number of animals needing to be cared for while they wait for the chance to be adopted.

Many animal shelters are over capacity and do not have the necessary supplies to care for the animals. Millions of dogs and cats enter pounds each year across the United States, all of them needing to be cared for while they wait to find a home. Because of Turner’s experience with caring for animals, she seeks out opportunities to help animals in need.

“Just one item can make an impact in an animal’s life while they are waiting for their forever home,” Turner said.

To help keep these animals cared for, Turner is hosting a community drive for the Humboldt City Pound. Turner is asking help from the community to donate items to the pound to keep the animals fed and well-taken care of until they are adopted.

These items include dog/cat food, treats, cat litter, pet beds, food/water bowls, and toys. Drop-off locations will be at Humboldt City Hall and Waggin’ Tails. Items can be picked up on an as-needed basis as well. This drive will last from October 16th to November 16th.

“Donations to our city pound is very important for us to continue doing what we love to do, with helping unwanted animals find amazing homes,” Animal Control Officer of Humboldt Sheri Modlin said.
