HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Commissioners are making a change in the newspaper used for their official publications.
After reviewing proposals submitted by the Hutchinson News, Ninnescah Valley News out of Pretty Prairie and the Haven-based newspaper, Rural Messenger, Commissioners voted 4-1 at the Reno County Commission Meeting July 26 to designate the Rural Messenger as the official newspaper conditioned on their matching the bid submitted by the Ninnescah Valley News.
The Ninnescah Valley paper bid $3.70 per column inch, but their circulation is only 630, compared to the Rural Messenger’s much larger base with a quote of $8.50 per column inch. The Hutchinson News bid worked out to $18.70 per column inch and quoted a price per line converted by staff.
The Messenger is in the process of changing their mail permit location from Wichita to Hutchinson. If they are not able to meet the legal requirement related to paid circulation, which information indicates they are in the process, the Ninnescah Valley News may get the designation.
