Prairie Bank of Kansas is changing hands. The Stafford-based bank, which also has locations in Buhler, Hutchinson and Inman, announced this week the sale of its parent holding company, Farmers National Bancshares Inc. to Community Bancorp Inc. and its subsidiary bank, Chanute based Community National Bank and Trust.
The merger of Prairie Bank and Community National, which is subject to regulatory approval, is expected to be completed in the 3rd quarter of 2025.
Prairie Bank CEO James Richardson said both banks are excited about the acquisition. He said “Prairie Bank is pleased to associate with a bank that is very community oriented and will continue to provide that one-on-one service to which their customers are Accustomed.
Community Bank’s Dan Mildfelt said combining the resources of the two strong and well-respected community banks will ensure an excellent commitment to the great communities Prairie Bank has serviced so well for over 135 years.
Community National Bank operates 40 locations, primarily in south central and southeast Kansas and adjacent portions of Missouri and Oklahoma including locations in Newton and the Wichita area.
