HUTCHINSON, Kan. — One person is dead after an early morning fire in midtown Hutchinson.
Hutchinson Fire Division Chief of Operations Jeremy Unruh said the first arriving units, called at 3:48 AM to the 200 block of West 15th, reported a residence was fully involved and threatening other nearby residences, which led to a “Vent Enter” search of the home’s remaining survivable space.
A defensive attack was then initiated on this house, and exposure protection initiated on the two adjacent homes, which sustained minor damage but remained habitable.
After the fire was controlled a victim was found deceased inside the structure along with a dog, a structural collapse team brought in along with Public Works Personnel to be able to remove the victim, whose Identity hasn’t been released.
Hutchinson Fire and State Fire Marshal investigators are looking into the origin and cause of the fire, and a medical examiner from Wichita is also assisting
