McPHERSON, Kan. — The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, a 1941 Piper Fixed-Wing Single Engine Aircraft had crashed 500 yards East of 25th Ave and Arapaho Rd, Southeast of Moundridge, Kan. The aircraft pilot, Justin T. Coletti of Salina was uninjured from the crash.
Coletti had lost a piece of his door off of the plane and was circling around to locate it and landed in a field. He attempted a takeoff but said there was not enough distance for a safe takeoff, so he landed again. While the plane was rolling, he had a hard brake while coming to a stop and the plane ended up nosed into the ground putting a slight dent in the propeller blades.
