MCPHERSON, Kan. – A new playground in McPherson’s Wall Park was formally dedicated Tuesday night as part of the 4th of July Extravaganza. The playground replaces one that originally opened in 1988 that had to be removed in 2019 for safety reasons.

Major donations for the project came from Larry and Pat Bruce, as well as an anonymous donor. Pat Bruce noted that many children have already used the new equipment since it opened on Friday afternoon. “Just hearing the kids, it’s just such an honor,” said Bruce.

Mayor Tom Brown said the gifts are just part of what makes McPherson so special. “People get involved and they share what they have to make things happen,” said Brown.

The community also had a big role in finishing the project. Residents earlier this year were allowed to vote on which of four concepts should be used for the park.

Commissioner of Public Lands and Facilities Gary Mehl also expressed thanks to Director of Public Lands and Facilities Wayne Burns and the many city employees who had a hand in making the new playground possible.
