ALLEN COUNTY, Kan. — Moran man died Wednesday night after he was struck along US 54 after a crash a few minutes before in far eastern Allen County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol Scott Welch was eastbound on 54 about two miles east of the US 59 Junction hauling a large bale of hay that obstructed visibility of his taillights that was rear-ended by a pickup driven by Raymond Streeter of Fort Scott.
This caused the Welch truck to rotate counter-clockwise and overturn, coming to rest on its wheels in the north ditch. Welch, who the Highway Patrol was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from his truck and subsequently ran over by a vehicle driven by James Bridger of Gainesville, Texas.
Welch was pronounced dead at the scene, neither of the other drivers were hurt.
