TURON, Kan. — One man was killed and another seriously injured in a Saturday night head-on crash on K-61 near Turon.
The Kansas Highway Patrol identified the victim as Martin McLaughlin of Romulus, Michigan.
He was southbound on K-61 just west of Olcott Road, a little over two miles northeast of Turon, when he was struck by a northbound semi. McLaughlin’s pickup became fully engulfed in flames in the northbound lane while the semi left the road to the left and came to rest upright in the ditch.
McLaughlin was pronounced dead at the scene, while the semi driver, Ryan Purchase of Ludington, Michigan, was taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center with reported serious injuries.
The Highway Patrol said Purchase was not wearing a seat belt at the time, while it was not known if McLaughlin was due to the fire.
