McPHERSON, Kan. — At a work session meeting Monday, the McPherson USD 418 Board of Education ratified an approximate $75,000 emergency replacement of a boiler at McPherson High School.

Three boiler units at MHS failed on Feb. 12, which resulted in a loss of heat to the hexagonal classrooms in the main building along with the Roundhouse and classrooms adjoining it.

Superintendent Shiloh Vincent reached out to P1 Group, which the district has used in the past and is on a state approved list for mechanical work for hire. They were able to get a new boiler delivered and installed by Feb. 16, when temperatures fell into the 20s and 30s.

Under board policy, the superintendent has authority to make expenditures necessary to, among others, keep schools open or reopen them as long as the board ratifies it at the next regular or special meeting.

Vincent said it’s not known if the boiler failures will be covered by warranty.
