MCPHERSON, Kan. – Payment of a $3 thousand invoice for design work on the new North Main Fire Station was approved by the McPherson City Commission Tuesday. Design work by Hutton Construction is now 30 percent complete.

Street Work

Commissioners approved an expenditure of just over $60,600 for materials connected with the reconstruction of the 400 block of West Skancke. The project, between Lincoln and Hayes, is one of the last two of eight projects promised during a half percent sales tax renewal. This work will be done by city crews. The only remaining project to be done is on Skancke from Hickory to the railroad tracks.

Police Drones

The McPherson Police Department was given the go-ahead to purchase two drones. Police Chief Mikel Golden said they are taking advantage of a discount sale from Vector Solutions on pre-owned demo or lightly used UAS drones.

The drones will be used for training, active and crime scene investigations, missing person cases, SWAT operations, search and recovery, vehicle collisions, and Local Emergency Planning Committee use. The $9,000 purchase price is being paid out of a drug enforcement line item.

The Police Department currently has one certified drone operator and four others in the process of training for their license.

Code Update

The Commission approved payment to Municode for codification and updating of the city’s codes. This will incorporate into the code book all ordinances from the second half of 2020 up to now. While the quoted price is just over $4500, it was indicated the final cost should come in under this amount.
